Planning a career in the offshore maritime industry should be thought out very carefully. It's dangerous and you're gone away from home and your loved ones for many days at a time. However, working offshore can be not only lucrative, but rewarding as well.

Most offshore companies provide you with Health and Dental Insurance, 401-K and offer bonus incentives for safety and longevity at their expense.. Your benefits and bonus incentives usually start after your first 90 days of employment.

The earning potential for working offshore in the maritime industry is very lucrative to say the least. You honestly have the opportunity to make as much, or more in one day, than many individuals make all week. Seriously!

3. You only work 6-9 months out of the year

Most hitches, (the time you're working offshore), last 28 days, then you're off for 14 days.. Yes they're are some companies that offer 14 days on / 14 days off as well. So if you think about it you're only working offshore 6 to 9 months out of the year.
