Getting in Shape With the Nintendo Wii Fit

Video games have gotten a bad rap over the past decade. The rate that children are becoming obese is alarming so video games are one of the first things to be blamed. Children are spending more time inside then they are outside running around and playing.

If you have a child, teenager, or even an adult that is overweight I recommend the Nintendo Wii. It is a great way for those who do not like to get out especially in crowds like gyms to exercise. The Nintendo Wii Console is required to use the Wii Fit. It is not recommended for those over 300lbs due to the weight limit.

The Wii Fit allows you to save money rather than spend money on exercise equipment that most likely will not be used. Memberships to local fitness gyms are not needed as is a personal trainer. This is because you get to choose between a male or female virtual personal trainer on the Wii Fit. Once you have chosen your personal trainer, it will be time to move on to the balance tests, BMI testing and then your Wii Fit Age.

Step on the balance board to test your balance. Wii Fit tests your balance between your left and right sides. Most people are off balance and actually place more weight on one side. With the Wii Fit you learn how to become balanced. When finished with the balance tests, you move on to the BMI testing. Add your birthdate, height and weight (which the Wii Fit does for you) for a BMI result. Next you get to set your goal to either gain or lose weight within the amount of time you choose. Then the Wii Fit calculates your "Wii Fit Age" which is comprised of your balance test and BMI testing.

Get started with one of four categories: Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, or Balance. Demonstrations are done before the actual exercise or you may skip through it. As you attempt each exercise and successfully complete it you earn fitness credits and unlock new exercises.

After trying out a Wii Fit at my best friend's house, I decided to purchase one for myself and two of my three children. I am glad I made the purchase because I found out my 10 year old daughter is borderline towards being overweight. She loves using the Wii Fit, especially the running located in the Aerobics Section. This makes it great when the weather is not so great.

During the winter months it can be hard to get kids outdoors to run around and play. Using the Wii Fit indoors gets the kids and adults up exercising and staying fit. When it is raining outside kids want to get on the video games so having the Wii Fit is a great way to keep everyone moving around. Currently the Wii Fit is difficult if not impossible to find in stores. However, if you do your research you may find one for a reasonable price on ebay.

I highly recommend that if you have someone who is borderline to overweight whether they are a child or an adult that you consider investing in the Nintendo Wii Fit. This is one great way to get everyone up and moving around while staying fit.
